Risk Disclosure on Compounding Runs: In compounding strategies, log(equity), log(drawdown $), and drawdown % correlate 0.98–1.00 with each other (principal component analysis captures 98.6% of the variance on a single dimension). Quantitative Mechanics

Why Standard Backtests Mislead

Most commercial trading bots showcase cherry-picked closed-balance curves. Indigo Forge evaluates true continuous mark-to-market equity.

1. Equity vs. Balance Drawdown

Closed-trade balance graphs conceal intra-trade floating losses. If an algorithm holds adverse positions before price recovers, balance drawdown appears mild while equity drawdown may approach ruin. Indigo Forge measures every tick's floating equity.

2. Temporal Separation of Drawdown Maxima

Max Drawdown % and Max Drawdown $ describe completely different moments on a compounding curve. The percentage peak occurs during early, low-capital sizing; the dollar peak occurs at high capital. Neither alone describes typical risk.

3. Scale-Free Recovery Factor

Recovery factor (Net Profit ÷ Max Drawdown $) provides the only scale-free metric in the optimization set. It allows objective ranking of parameter efficiency within any fixed capital allocation.
